Have you heard about R.E.A.D.? The Reading Education Assistance Dogs program that improves children's reading and communication skills.

Do you know about AAT? Animal Assisted Therapy Dogs that assist professional therapist or counselors to bring about positive emotional outcomes and healing usually in hospitals.

More dogs should be given credit for their love and loyalty toward humans. Dogs are used in all kinds of therapy programs for senior citizens to young children, at risk teenagers, prison rehab programs. etc., etc., not to mention their usefulness in crime fighting.

Dogs are recruited from shelters, rescue groups to train for therapy programs. Some programs do better with particular breeds depending on the nature of the program. For example, Hearing dogs, can be any breed but are usually medium in size, where as Agricultural pest detection dogs tend to be large in size because of the strenuous nature of the job.
